He isn't particularly loyal as a sailor; he cares about people, but he joined when Haru was pressed into service. While Makoto wasn't exactly willing to sell out the entire militia, he wouldn't mind doing his best to be useful in exchange for ... not being tortured or drowned, and hopefully put back on land, eventually.
He's pretty sure he falls asleep, for a brief period; the rocking of the ship is familiar, and even if the sounds of the ship are different, they're similar enough that they don't set Makoto too on edge. He jerks when the door opens, and turns to face Sousuke as best he can, judging direction purely by sound. ]
